History
Year 7
Lessons involve a mixture of storytelling, role play, research/reading, investigations of written and visual sources and watching extracts from documentaries or film. Students are encouraged to use ICT where appropriate.
Topics studied in Year 7 are:
Unit 1: What is History and how can we learn about it?
Unit 2: The Normans: Conquest and Consolidation
Unit 3: Medieval Monarchs: Power & Control
Unit 4: Castles: Attack and Defence & Medieval Peasants
Unit 5: The Tudors
Year 8
In Year 8 students will study the Making of the UK 1500-1900. Topics covered are:
Unit 6: The Renaissance: Who was the most important person of this period?
Unit 7: The English Civil War
Unit 8: Industrialisation & Empire
Unit 9: The Vote: Changes in British Democracy
Year 9
In Year 9 students will study the Twentieth Century World. Topics covered are:
Unit 10: The causes of WWI, Stalemate and Trench Warfare.
Unit 11:The Inter War Years 1919-1939.
Unit 12: The causes and turning points of WW2
Term 4: The Holocaust, Hiroshima & the A-Bomb
Term 5: Conspiracy Theories: The Assassination of JFK & the Moon Landing
Term 6: The Cold War, Terrorists and Freedom Fighters: 1945 - 2001
