Incorporating Personal, Social, Health and Economic education along with Citizenship.

In Year 7 the programme will be delivered through two lessons per timetable cycle along with specially arranged slots, as well as using some form teacher time. Outside agencies, such as “Infobuzz” will be involved in delivery of some of the programme content. In Years 8 and 9 there will be one lesson per cycle and work will extend into aspects of financial capability and career choices, as well as work on sex and relations education.

The aims of the course are:

  • To consider the aims of the every child matters agenda through the statutory content for citizenship.
  • To consider issues of economic wellbeing
  • To consider issues of personal well being
  • To incorporate aspects of the SEAL agenda (Social, emotional aspects of learning)
  • To provide a foundation for careers guidance throughout the school

Topics covered throughout the key stage include the key concepts of;    

  • Democracy and justice
  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Personal identities
  • Healthy lifestyles including drugs and alcohol education
  • Relationships
  • Diversity
  • Risk
  • Careers
  • Economic understanding

Activities Students will be involved in a range of activities such as discussion, debating, research, role play, watching DVD’s and the use of creative writing and art work. Students will also be encouraged to play their part as active citizens through such activities as contributions to form and House council, involvement in charity fund raising events and litter picking around the campus.
