On Thursday 23 January we had our termly fundraiser, this time for the charity LV= SOS Kit Aid, a charity that has recycled over 35 tonnes of sports kit and equipment in its 15 year existence. It has numerous projects set up across the world in areas where poverty is a large problem and many people can’t afford separate clothing suitable for sport.

In partnership with Gloucester Rugby we had a large collection and a very successful day with many sporting shirts on show and roughly 1,000 pieces of kit collected – enough to fill almost half of the sports hall. The charity official who came to collect the kit said that it was the largest single collection by any school nationwide in the charity’s 15 year history. The two people that must be commended are Max Marston and Elliot Bonham who brought in by far the most kit and they were rewarded with a family match day ticket for Forest Green Rovers and a signed Gloucester Rugby ball respectively, as well as getting the chance to meet Gloucester captain Tom Savage who came down to celebrate our collection. The lucky winners of the raffle were Callum Marsh and Sam Browne who won a Gloucester shirt and Forest Green shirt respectively. Thank you to Ecotricity and Gloucester Rugby for donating the prizes.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone that helped cover the sports hall in the collected kit; Dom Barton, Oak Pollard, Elliot Bonham, Harry Ellis and Luke Walpole, and everyone who donated kit and made it a record breaking collection – well done Marling!

Alastair Bolton, 13C
