On Monday 19 May 2014 pupils from five local primary schools were invited to a day of perfume chemistry in our Science Laboratories.

Pupils watched a lecture demonstration of the chemistry involved in producing perfumes given by Tim Harrison, Teacher Fellow at Bristol University ChemLabs. They then spent the morning blending their own perfume using a variety of exotic ingredients such as whale ambergris and a selection of essential oils.

The perfume chemistry day was aimed at stimulating children's curiosity of the science behind everyday items and providing the opportunity to be involved in some practical science in a chemistry laboratory. The feed back from the children and their teachers was fantastic: 'I love chemistry!'
