The Year 12 debating team travelled to Liverpool University to compete in the national final of the European Youth Parliament. During 4 days the team were judged not only on their debating skills but on their social abilities and language acumen. Marling were assigned the motion’ Taming the Russian bear’ which required identifying present problems within Russian and Western European relations then providing solutions to allow for better cultural, political and economic ties between the nations. A total of 12 debates were conducted in English with the last unseen debate conducted in French. The standard was extremely high as competing schools had won through regional rounds to reach finals weekend. A unanimous decision from the judges placed Marling School as outright winners of the competition with one quoting that the team’s knowledge was “phenomenal”. Marling School have been asked to represent the United Kingdom at the 74th International Session of EYP in Tbilisi, Georgia.
