On Monday 17 June 2013, George Gooch, Adam Cox, Henry Farrar-Khan and Shay McQuail went to the Royal Horticultural Halls in London to compete in the National finals of the UKMT team Maths challenge. After comfortably winning our local competition earlier in the year, spirits were high on the train. But once we got there we realised that we were up against 79 of the top schools in the country. There was a poster round to begin with in which we had to make a poster relating to packing. Despite all our efforts we failed to make the top 3 in that event. However, the main competition continued from there when we had 8 different problems to solve. We then went on to the crossnumber which is a crossword using numbers. The mini relay round came next and we had to use the answer from the previous question to get our next answer so one mistake cost lots of marks. Finally there was the relay round which involved 320 children running round in a large hall and answering questions. It was by far the most fun and we did very well. We came 36th out of 80 on the day from a total of 1600 original entrants. It was a good effort by the team to attain that position.
