On Monday 17 November, eight members of the chess club ventured to Bristol Grammar School to compete in the ECF Team Chess Challenge 2014/15. We knew we’d be up against strong competition but we were up for the challenge. The host school was really welcoming and provided us with refreshments, but were deadly serious when the games began. We each played four games of chess, which were timed, which put the pressure on us against competitors from a total of twelve schools. We won some and lost some but we can thank Oskar for winning all of his games, to put the pressure on the other schools. In the end we could hold our heads up high as the A team came sixth out of twelve schools, and most of us had no previous experience of playing chess at this level. The experience was great, and we certainly have learned a few new strategies! A big thank you to Mr Cook for organising the whole thing and taking us there and back on the minibus. We had great fun and hope to enter again next year.

Thanks to all on the A B teams:
Zac Thomas-Akoo( Y13), Rory Calland (Y13), James Bradshaw (Y9), Oskar Cox-McCracken (Y9), Tom Waterworth (Y8), Aaron Shocker (Y7), Tom Cowling (Y7), Elliot Bowkett (Y7)
James Bradshaw 9C
