Tom Mortimer, 11F has had a fantastic start to the cross country season with an impressive performance in the opening British Cross Challenge event at Liverpool. Tom finished in sixth place in the under 17 men’s race. The competition was strong with many of the best young runners in the country.
“That was probably my best run yet in what was a very good field,” said Tom.
“I was expecting to come in the top 12 so it was a bit of a shock to finish so high but I am delighted. I felt very strong.”
Tom’s sixth place follows up his two wins this autumn in the Gloucestershire and Gwent Cross Country Leagues and suggests further success is to come. His sixth was also the highest finish by a county runner in Liverpool.
“Hopefully I can do really well in the South West, Midland Counties and National Championships after Christmas,” added Tom.
We wish Tom luck for his events in the New Year.
