The first Gloucestershire School Games event of the year took place on Tuesday 13 January with a school from each district competing in the Table Tennis county finals at the YMCA Cheltenham. The event, which was supported by Cheltenham Table Tennis club, was a fiercely contested competition over four hours with 60 children from all over the county taking part.

Marling Under 12's Table tennis A team - Pablo Carrington, Finlay Davies, Walter Lovell and Daniel O'Neill - took part in the competition. As they started to warm up, knots started to tie in their stomachs; the pressure was on. "We were confident that we had a chance to become County champions," explains Dan O'Neill, " Although when we played our first matches, we realised that it was not going to be a piece of cake." As we started to get used to the pressure, the matches became easier to play and win, until there were only a few more matches to play. Finally, the last game was played and the teams were called to the awards ceremony. As 3rd and 2nd places were announced, tension was rising. The suspense was eased as Marling under 12's were announced County Champions.

At the same competition, the U15 team comprising of Louis Lovell (Yr.9), Ethan Byrne (Yr.8), Marcus Holba (Yr.8) and George Morris (Yr.9) also became County Champions.

Both teams will now represent Gloucestershire at the Regional Zonal Finals in January 2016. Once they have played in this event they will be awarded their School Colours tie.
