Two Year 13 teams, Tom Carlile and Toby Jones and Jack Aspinall and Sean Kemsley won the South West second regional round of the Cambridge Schools Debating Competition on Monday 26 January at Badminton School. They will join other talented students at the prestigious finals day in the historic Cambridge Union building. Built in 1815, the Cambridge Union is the oldest speaking Union in the world.



On Wednesday 11 February Jack Aspinall and Sean Kemsley won the South West regional finals of the Oxford Union Society’s annual schools’ competition. The Oxford Schools competition is the largest British Parliamentary schools level debating competition in the world. The regional round was held at Downside School in Stratton-on-the-Fosse, Bath where the duo debated twice in the British Parliamentary format. They will now progress to the Finals Day competition held at the prestigious Oxford University on Saturday 14 March 2015 where they will compete against 90 of the best teams from the UK, Ireland and the international rounds. The best teams at Finals Day will compete in a Grand Final held in the world famous Union debating Chamber and judged by some of the world's best university speakers and adjudicators, and the Chief Adjudicators. 



Congratulations to Jamie Arthur (11C) and Sam Newey (11F) for their public speaking success. Jamie won best speaker in the English Speaking Union Public Speaking competition at St Edwards School, Cheltenham on Tuesday 27 January. Sam won the Best Chair in the regional final of the English Speaking Union Churchill National Public Speaking Competition at Cheltenham Municipal Offices on Tuesday 3 February. A fabulous achievement for both boys!
