Year 10 & 12 students took part in an engineering challenge today with Danya Walker from the James Dyson Foundation, a Dyson charity aimed at promoting design engineering.

Students were set the brief to design a product that would solve a problem at home. The product had to be powered by air and made using Dyson parts and cardboard. Students went through the processes of mind mapping, sketching to communicate the idea and finally building a prototype.

The groups ideas were a jet pack for the elderly to help them get up the stairs, a clothes dryer that also removed creases, an alarm clock that used air to wake you up, a super fast hairdryer and a fan nightlight for children.

One student thought that it was an exciting workshop that explained the design process in a short time, and that it was great to have a hands on lesson.
