On Wednesday 16 April 2015 Year 8 students took part in an engineering day which involved some exciting demonstrations of setting fire to popcorn and using Jenga to understand how shock absorbers work on skyscrapers. During one of the sessions, the boys were tasked with designing and modelling a marble run with the aim of keeping the marble running for 60 seconds. They discussed using low gradient ‘runs’ and adding friction to slow the marble down. It proved trickier than the boys first imagined!
