Ben Joynson, James Tilden and Josh Webb (Y13) entered the 2015 Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad. This involves sitting an extremely challenging exam paper designed to stretch their thinking about chemistry by applying the knowledge they have gained during their study at advanced level, to new areas. All 3 students achieved silver awards, placing them in the top 30% of participants nationally.
The olympiad is a challenging written test of chemical knowledge, and quite an event in itself! Gold, silver, bronze and participation certificates are awarded. The questions posed often stimulate much debate on, and enthusiasm for, chemistry - raising awareness of what the subject is all about. Tackling the paper also provides a good opportunity to develop some of the skills required for study at university and beyond. The questions are designed to be interesting and challenging and are based on real and relevant chemistry, raising awareness of what the subject is all about.
