Show me:

When my art teacher Ms Reece told our class about the Gloucestershire Carers Art Competition, I was all for it. The theme was ‘Shoes’ and under a strict deadline Will Mead and I worked most Wednesday lunchtimes in Art Club on our pieces. I gave mine in thinking to myself “there are loads of entries so I probably don’t stand a chance” because the competition was open to all the schools in Gloucestershire.

Two weeks later I got a phone call from my teacher explaining sudden good news. I had won second prize! While the details and arrangements were quickly discussed I could not wait! My work was to be shown in Gloucester Cathedral as part of the ‘2015 Art for Carers’ exhibition featuring local and national artists. Will had won 1st prize so we all met up with our parents and Ms Reece on Thursday the 9th April at the Cathedral for the private view and presentation of the prizes. To know that my work was on display with the ‘greats’ – Zandra Rhodes and Damian Hirst was unbelievable!  So when we were in demand for photos by the reporters we of course said yes! The artist P. J. Crook presented the prizes. I won £30 worth of art materials and Will won £50 worth of art materials. But of course winning a prize just shows how ‘you’ve got to be in it to win it!’

The exhibition has now moved on to Tewkesbury Abbey and is showing until Friday 29 May.
