The weekend of 12 - 14 June 2015 once again saw Nottingham's Highfield Sports Club host the U13 Boys Regional Festival of Hockey. A national hockey competition featuring three days of exciting and skilful hockey contested by 10 regional teams from across the UK, including teams from England, Scotland and Wales. Following intensive training in Exeter, Alex Hicks (8E) was selected from a group of 50 boys as one of the squad of 16 outfield players to represent the West of England (the West Panthers). He was the only player in Gloucestershire to be selected. Matches were full pitch 11 a-side playing 25 minutes each way. The West Panthers played 6 matches in total over 3 days, winning 5, losing in the semi-final to eventual winners Tensworth (The North West) and winning their playoff match to finish a creditable third. Alex now has aspirations to play representative hockey for the UK Lions and ultimately to make the England Hockey squad.
