On Wednesday 16 October six students went to Ascot race course to visit the Sodexo Salon Culinaire 2013, the most extensive culinary competition at Sodexo.  It is where practised chefs are put to the test in front of a live audience; younger chefs get their first competition experience; and keen bakers and amateur chefs from across Sodexo can enter one of the 18 static classes, ranging from imaginative bread displays and baked cheesecakes to sugar floral displays and innovative table settings.

It was a great day out seeing lots of different foods that are on the market. We saw lots of chefs plying their trade while there were also stands showing foods. Everyone there was very welcoming and happy to discuss how various products were made and therefore it was a very enlightening and engaging experience. The highlight for me was speaking to and having a demonstration from celebrity chef Paul Rankin. As well as being an incredible cook with a wealth of experience and some great tips, he was very entertaining to listen to. Overall it was a thoroughly inspirational day out.
