All twenty five Marling and Stroud High School participants in the 2013 Bergerac-Stroud Science Exchange returned exhausted but happy on Saturday 12 October after two intensive weeks of very successful work and play. In week one, we welcomed our exchange partners, visited the Rutherford-Appleton Laboratories to visit the ISIS facility and started our projects on very high level particle physics. We made cloud chambers back at Marling School, had several social get-togethers and the week culminated with our presentations to staff from Rutherford on Friday. Then straight off to the beautiful Dordogne region the very next day!

Monday saw us visit a Lycee Professional where students learn all aspects of viticulture and a commercial laboratory where the wines from the region are subject to rigorous testing. We then replicated some of these tests in the lab and witnessed the entire process from vendage to bottling at a local vineyard. All students then helped out in English lessons at our host Lycee and then there was a chance to let off steam on the zip wires, platforms and cargo nets of Accrozarbres. Everyone did their best to give at least some of their final presentation in French - some with great success and some with quite a few giggles. Quote of the week - "My host family are amazing - they live in a castle - I've got my very own turret!"
