The opening event of The Philosophy & Ethics Society was held on Wednesday 9 October at lunchtime. It was a formal debate on the ethical alternatives of Just War and Pacifism in the context of Syria. Some eighty students and several members of staff attended to hear students including David Locke, Sorrel Macleod, Alice James, and others put forward their arguments.

The Philosophy & Ethics Society is open to Year 10-13 students and meet fortnightly in the Lecture Theatre with further themes this term including Anthropology of Religion, Philosophy of Time, Psychology of Religion, Medical Ethics, and Social Ethics. Next term there will be much more coming up and students need only look out for the posters and daily notice sheet. The purpose of the society is firstly to show case the Philosophical and Ethical Thinking talent from our Year 10-13 students and engage with contemporary issues in Philosophy through guest speakers. Anyone from Year 10 to 13 from both Stroud High and Marling School are welcome- space is limited it seems.
