To join in with the celebrations of Stroud Book Week, two authors visited Marling at the start of November to give talks to Year 7 and Year 8.
Andy Briggs visited on Monday 14 November and spoke to Year 7 about the exciting opportunities that being an author can bring. Andy then signed books for the students in the Library. We also ran a competition for the Year 7 students to redesign one of Andy’s front covers. Andy judged the competition and chose Matthew Paget 7F as the winning entry.
The following day, local author Jane Ryan visited Year 8 students to introduce her new series of books called “Missing Dad”. Jane spoke to the students about her journey to become an author and the inspiration behind the new series, which is set in the local area. Both talks were well received by the boys and we hope that they were inspired to read more and maybe even to try their hand at writing some fiction of their own!
