Year 10 and 12 Computer Science students took part in the inaugural Cyberfest event, hosted by the University of Gloucestershire. The days surprise keynote speaker (for good reason) was Robert Hannigan, current Managing Director of the Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ). The day was jam packed full of activities and experiences for all the students to interact with from Augmented Reality headsets and Virtual Reality Fruit Ninja, to using a real life replica of an Enigma machine, cyphers and an introduction to linux command line exploitation.

The students were also taken on a tour of the university’s new Cyber Security facility which host a new High Performance Computing cluster, a highly secure research and training suite, and a cyber ‘dirty lab’, which can allow sensitive product testing, recreate viruses and attacks from hackers in a secure environment. The event was a huge success and has inspired all students about the potential career opportunities around cyber security.
