On Tuesday 4 July, approximately 30 former students of the Stroud Technical School visited Marling School for afternoon tea and a tour of the old school buildings. There was much enjoyment and the ceaseless chatter and swapping of stories and events that occurred more than half a century ago. It was wonderful to hear their stories and share their palpable excitement at returning to their old school; one Old Boy had not been to the school since 1945!

The Old Boys were clearly very impressed with all the new developments and often ‘lost their bearings’ when trying to work out ‘what used to be here’, ‘who taught in there’ and ‘I wonder what happened to that?’ Compliments were sent to the team who maintain the site so beautifully.

They were equally impressed by our Sixth Form Ambassadors from Year 12 who helped to show them around, displaying knowledge and demonstrating courtesy and enthusiasm.

There was also high praise for the Year 9 Food and Nutrition students who prepared a mouth-watering buffet to accompany the copious cups of tea, fortifying all before setting off on the tour.

All in all, it was a most enjoyable evening for the “Old Boys” and also for the staff and students who took part in the event.
