On Saturday 19 October, Marling School staff and students were joined by former students to bid farewell to the Long Corridor, a building within the School that was originally erected as a temporary structure in 1921. The building is due to be demolished next month and will be replaced with a new modern building housing classrooms, office space, toilets and a contemporary canteen, costing around £3.7 million in total.
“It has been so much a part of the School for 90 or so years. Former pupils who return to the School always talk about how they remember knocking on the heating pipes in the Long Corridor to communicate with each other.” Jane Bradly, Marling School Librarian.
A special ceremony was held on the day to say goodbye to the Long Corridor and although it will be missed, we look forward to the completion of the new build in spring 2015.
