On Thursday 13 July, thirteen Sixth Form students travelled to Snowdonia to complete their DofE GOLD expedition. For seven of the students, this was their final qualifying expedition and for six it was their practice. It really was ‘a game of two halves’. Day 1 & 2 were perfect weather conditions and the boys were gifted some spectacular views. Days 3 & 4 were quite the opposite with visibility often inside 50 metres and rainfall to match.

Both groups followed a similar route which was not for the faint hearted. Most days covered over 20 Km and total ascents hit triple figures. Whilst this really challenged both groups, I was tremendously proud that they all managed to complete the arduous route. The teamwork and resilience in both groups were superb and really reinforced why a GOLD award is something exceptional. A special congratulations to Matt Greening from Y13 who has completed all sections and therefore will be collecting his award from the Palace in due course.
