On Friday 9 March 2018 Marling School had a visit from Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester to officially open our Creative Arts block. The Duchess of Gloucester was given a tour of the new Art rooms, visiting a Year 11 and a Sixth Form class who were working on their GCSE and A Level coursework.

The Duchess conversed with the students who shared their ideas behind their work and the benefits that the new building has brought to them. Continuing from the Art rooms into the new Drama Studio where two Year 10 students Joe Horsman and Johnny English performed a dramatic scene from Journey’s End.

The Duchess was then escorted to the Dining Hall. Along the way she was greeted by flag holders from all years. In the Dining Hall Her Royal Highness found herself greeted by ex and current Governors, Marling PSA members, The CAB construction team as well as both this year’s and next year’s Head Boy team. After talking with individuals from these parties the Duchess was presented with a gift by Ollie Greenwood.

Before the grand unveiling the Duchess made a small speech.  “I offer my warmest congratulations to everyone who has been involved in this project. It was lovely to visit the new Creative Arts Block and see what you now have. There was some excellent work going on by all pupils. I wish you all the best in the future and declare the block officially open.”  Alongside Head Boy Sam Reed, the Duchess revealed the plaque.
