On Monday 26 March a group of Year 8 students welcomed Residents from Scarlet House in Ebley. The students had organised this event after learning about Dementia and its effects in lessons. The boys worked hard to organise the event and on the day interacted incredibly well. The Students really brought the residents out of their shells and put smiles on their faces. After a spot of tea and cake and a sing along the residents of Scarlet House went home.

Mrs Phillips, teacher of RE has been working with the group.  She said: “The boys planned the event entirely.  They wrote poems, created a short film and provided homemade cakes and sang with the residents.”

Emily Shiers from Scarlet House, said: “It was obvious that the boys had put a lot of thought into the event.  The interaction between them and our residents was lovely to see and activities like these really benefit people living with Dementia.”

Scarlet house and Marling School hope to build a relationship and continue events like these in the Future.
