In less than an academic year, Marling School’s Eco Committee has gone from strength-to-strength.  Formed at the beginning of 2018, the committee, mainly made up of Year 8 students, has introduced school-wide recycling with the eventual aim of sending more of our waste for recycling than to landfill.  They carried out assemblies to educate their peers about the benefits of recycling and to let them know where they can recycle.

They also met with a representative from local MP, David Drew’s, office to discuss their vision and how the wider community can help.

They have carried out a Environmental Review to identify areas where we could improve such as biodiversity, energy use and littering.  They have since seen daily litter-picking being introduced amongst all different year groups.

They meet weekly in Miss Bailey’s room and are always on the lookout for new members to carry through their Action Plan –to  increase recycling; reduce littering; increase biodiversity; reduce energy use; go ‘plastic free’ for a week.

They have successfully applied for the Bronze Award through the Eco-Schools scheme and are working towards the Silver Award.
