On Saturday 16 November 2013, once again the Design and Technology block was buzzing when Marling School hosted the Inter School Rotary Chef competition 2013/14.

Marling School students competed against the Stroud High School girls for a place in the district competition to be held in January.   Representing Marling School were Year 10 Hospitality and Catering students; Alex Egan, Toby Beardsley, Alexander Smith and George Hayes. Ben Creed represented the Year 11 group.  

Alexander Smith impressed the judges with his Risotto and Autumnal fruit compote topped with a crisp crumble accompanied with crème anglaise and was awarded first place by the judges.

Toby Beardsley successfully demonstrated magnificent spun sugar skills which he used to finish his individual cheese cakes.  Melt in the mouth brownies were made by Alex Egan which were served with shots of amaretto cream. Ben produced short crust pastry with ease and his pear pastry tartlets were light and crisp.  George made stunning lattice chicken pies and his dessert a light lemon cheese cake had a crisp biscuit base accompanied by a creamy citrus kick.
