Marling School Year 10 Football Team became Stroud District Champions after a windswept victory over Deer Park School at Shortwood FC.  A stunning volley from Lloyd Gardiner clinched the win. This victory gave the team an automatic place in the County Cup semi-final against the Forest of Dean District Champions, with the two finalists from Cheltenham and Gloucester playing in the other side of the draw. The team from the Forest forfeited this game resulting in Marling School going on to face St Peters from Gloucester in the final.
On Friday 10 May the boys played away to St Peters and, accompanied by a band of dedicated parents, they set about a controlled and determined performance. The team really stuck at the task against a side blessed with individual talent.
Exceptional performances from the entire Marling School squad resulted in a 3-0 win, with one goal from Tom Black and two from Jamie Johnson.
Becoming the Gloucester Champions resulted in the side reaching the combination North and South Gloucestershire Championship Final, a first for any Marling School side.
On Wednesday 15 May at the Cadbury’s Social Club in Keynsham, Bristol, the Year 10s met Chipping Sodbury. Marling School fought hard, but lost 4-2.
It was with bitter disappointment but with great pride that the Marling School team applauded the opposition as they lifted the cup. This has been a season that has seen this side lose only once, become District and County Champions and reach the final of a competition that involved over 70 schools from two areas.
