Year 7 Nature Club finds Yeast can be used for more than bread!

On Monday 18 December, the Year 7 Nature Club met to explore the wonders of nature. To start off with, the celery sticks that had been standing in coloured water were cut open to expose the Xylem vessels. Samples of the tissue were then placed under the microscope so everyone could see the tiny transport vessels, stained red by food colouring. Everybody wanted to take photographs with their mobile phones! Then, after a brief introduction to Yeast, an investigation was set up to collect the Carbon Dioxide gas from respiring Yeast in balloons! As the balloons were filling, a fun quiz saw one team rewarded with some chocolate bars as a prize for coming first. A fun set of activities that were enjoyed by everyone!
